"Kesia Qulu" the founder’s story
My name is Kesia Qulu. I am a spiritual being whose life has been marked by pain, struggles, and humiliation from a young age. I am a journalist, entrepreneur, and activist. I am the daughter of a man who dedicated his life to evangelism and freedom fighting in South Africa. My childhood was shaped by new faces seeking refuge in our home as they fled their homes in and around KwaZulu-Natal. Some were displaced, some homeless, until our house became a sanctuary for 160 individuals. Pain, discipline, and prayer were my constant companions. Although I initially resented prayer, I later came to appreciate the gift my parents had given me.
As I grew older, I became a journalist and entrepreneur, supporting my family as the breadwinner alongside my elder sister. When our parents went their separate ways, my elder sister took care of us, then I continued later my younger sister took over the role of providing for the family. Throughout these challenges, my mother remained a steadfast prayer warrior.
I founded Connect World TV, but my name was not widely recognized until I found a valuable partnership with 1KZN TV. However, after a difficult experience following a conference in Pretoria, I was raped and mugged.I struggled with depression and thoughts of suicide. Relying on the seed of prayer planted by my parents, I persevered with the support of my family, including my younger sister who is a neuroscientist.
I have since founded the program Courageous Souls, which aims to provide support to the vulnerable sons and daughters of those who sacrificed their prime years caring for others. Despite facing rejection and broken promises, Courageous Souls now consists of a team of five: myself as the founder and four doctors. My goal is not only to provide financial assistance but also mental health and wellness packages to heal our communities. As a result of my high commitment to this cause, I have encountered debts to landlords, loans, and lack of income. My aim is to address debts, give money to beneficiaries for school or business, and run a GBV program.
I believe in the importance of family and healing individuals to ultimately heal society as a whole. Each day is a struggle against lifelong trauma, but I am committed to making a positive impact through Courageous Souls.
